The Midlands Packaging Society 2025 AGM & Visit to Everards Brewery, Leicester.

We are pleased to report that on September 30th our Annual General Meeting was attended by 14 members of our Society. Tim Barbary remains as our chair and Victoria Whyley was elected Vice Chair. Emily Hilditch will run our website and Ian Morris will continue as Secretary and Treasurer.
The meeting was held at Everards Meadows, a Brewery and Restaurant complex in Leicester.
After the AGM closed the group embarked on a tour of the brewery led by our guide Charlie who was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable host, sharing with us the background behind the Company and providing us with a commentary as we progressed through the various processes involved in brewing.
Everards Brewery is a regional brewer that was founded in 1849 by William Everard and Thomas Hull in Leicester. The company quickly grew by acquiring and running local pubs and by the late 1880s Everards owned over 100 pubs.
In 1875 the brewery moved to new modern facilities and expanded its brewing operations including acquiring breweries in Burton on Trent where it developed and launched its Tiger Beer, named in honour of the Royal Leicester Regiment that contributed in the past to campaigns in India.
Today Everards remains independent and is chaired by the 5th generation of the Everard family, and the brewery is now based at the Everards Meadows site near to Fosse Park. The Company now owns around 150 pubs across Leicestershire and the surrounding counties and is known for its commitment to quality, community involvement and its award-winning beers.
Following on from our tour we were given a taste of three of the brewery’s excellent ales in their adjoining restaurant/bar and shared a much needed and excellent meal before a late departure homewards.
